Meshelle

As the owner of the salon, Meshelle has a personal interest in making
sure every person that walks through Black Orchid's doors has an
enjoyable and satisfying experience. After becoming frustrated by
previous work environments, she endeavored to create a new type of
salon that focuses primarily on quality of service and promoting a
healthy work environment. This is visible in details such as the
quality of the hair and skin products used at the salon and the time
she takes to make sure the stylists are not only familiar with the
products, but are confident they're using the best possible products so
that they can be sure every client will go home happy. Each stylist at
Black Orchid was hand-picked by Meshelle for their talent, enthusiasm,
and desire to continue improving their skills on a daily basis. Her
goal from the beginning has been to create an atmosphere that
encourages learning and inspires creative expression. It is obvious
from the satisfaction of Black Orchid's customers and stylists that she
has achieved that goal.

In terms of cutting hair, Meshelle has always been interested in the
Sassoon method of precision cutting. She uses this method to create
stronger shape for a longer lasting haircut while enhancing texture and
movement. She also enjoys doing runway-style hair for fashion shows and
events, especially when she is able to have fun while working for a
cause she believes in. In addition, she loves working with curly,
textured hair and getting the chance to teach people how to work with
the natural texture of their hair, whether it be curly and frizzy hair
or straight hair that needs a little extra movement. In her spare time
Meshelle enjoys working with her hands to create other kinds of art,
such has carpentry and interior design. Her talent in these areas is
evident in the comfortable and relaxing ambiance of Black Orchid, which
she designed herself.

JUAN

Juan started his hairstyling career in 1998.  His fascination with the hair industry came to him when he would watch make-over shows on day time talk shows in the early to mid 90s.  He would see women’s hair being brought back to life after their usual routine of having the same style. This fascinated him and he wanted to be a part of that.  He went to hair school full time during the day and worked full time at night for a year to make his dream of becoming a stylist come true.  Now with over ten years in the industry he has never looked back.  Hairdressing is an ever evolving industry in style and fashion.  Juan believes that everyone has to keep themselves motivated in learning new ideas by continuing their education either by in-salon training or taking various classes outside the salon.  His journey into hairdressing started in an Aveda salon which was located on Guadalupe Street.  He went through a rigorous apprenticeship program learning the Toni and Guy cutting philosophy. He continued his education learning hair collections from what is called Aveda Purefessionals in Houston, Dallas and San Antonio to further his knowledge on Aveda hair color and cutting techniques.  After years of just Aveda cutting and color, Juan decided to venture outside the norm and attend classes at the renowned Vidal Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica, California.  Talk about a perfect match, Juan loved the Sassoon cutting philosophy and continues his cutting education at Vidal Sassoon locations in Chicago, Illinois and San Francisco, California.

Juan comes to Black Orchid Salon with a great work ethic. He shows that he cares about his clients and doesn’t treat them as if they are on a conveyor belt.  He works late or comes in early at times if a client is unable to make the salon hours. Although he is the salon cutting educator to help them grow, Juan also learns FROM his fellow “wizards”.  Juan tries to change his hair style as often as he can.  He states, “How can I get a client to change their style if I NEVER change!”

Lilli

As far back as she can remember, Lilli has loved hair. Styling
it, cutting it, or just playing with it, hair has always been her
favorite thing in the world. As a child she spent hours styling the
hair on her Barbie dolls and if she was lucky she even got to play with her
parents' hair. Lilli is very happy that she got to grow up and do the
profession she dreamed of as a child. She knows how rare that is and
feels lucky that she's always known what her passion is. For Lilli,
being a stylist means being able to make something beautiful and having
the chance to make people happy every day. To her, that's the best
reward. She's good at listening to what people want their hair to look
like and making that dream a reality. For those scared of losing their
long locks, Lilli can be trusted to help keep their hair long and
healthy. Understanding the laid back Austin attitude, Lilli is
especially talented at creating easy-care cuts that look great every
day. She loves creating styles that are quick and easy to fix before
heading to the office in the morning, but can be jazzed up before
heading out to hit the town in the evening. She also loves it when her
clients stop in for a shampoo and blow-dry before an event or fancy
dinner. She likes to have the chance to make someone's night better by
helping them feel confident and beautiful. With her cuts and color she
likes making classic and beautiful styles, but on the runway for a fashion
show she loves theatrical and fantasy styles and makeup. She especially
enjoys session styling because picture is worth a thousand words and
through her hair and makeup she can give those words a story.

Laureen

As a child, Laureen's love for art and beauty was founded and fueled
while attending numerous home facial parties and pamper days at the
local beauty school with her mother. Her fascination with the allure of
bottles and jars full of potions and lotions, mixed with her creative
and nurturing spirit has inspired her career in skincare and makeup
artistry for the past eleven years. She is great at making people feel
comfortable and tries to make every facial and wax a unique experience,
tailored to the specific needs of each client. Her attention to detail
ensures that the entire experience is relaxing and each client leaves
feeling refreshed. Laureen is passionate about the use
of herbs and flowers for health and healing, cooking, gardening,
reading and "all things French." She believes a beautiful attitude and
a healthy lifestyle is the key to beautiful skin.

chenoh

Chenoh grew up in the lush hills of Santa Cruz, California. Her
family consisted of hippie parents and lots of hippie children, as is
customary in that part of the world. Her first experience in the art of
hair cutting was at the age of four, when she boldly took her mother's
kitchen scissors to her own hair. It was immediately obvious that
Chenoh would be a talented stylist and five years ago she turned that
talent into a profession. She packed up her belongings, moved to
Austin, and jumped head first into the world of beauty. She has loved
every minute of it. Chenoh is inspired by her upbringing on the
California coast and the loose, undone style of surf culture as well as
vintage and current fashion. She also loves editorial work and runway
hair. Her passion is pushing the boundaries in the context of session
styling and applying those ideas to more practical uses in the real
world. She believes that hair should flow with the person wearing it
and excels at styles that enhance natural texture. Book an appointment
with Chenoh for sun-kissed highlights that grow out with ease, a
glowing new color, or a perfectly tousled sewn-in updo that you have to
see to believe.
