Gonzales

cut + color

After a successful climb up the corporate ladder, I decided to try a career that would allow me to connect with the people I worked with on a daily basis.  I took a leap of faith in 2004. I quit my job to wait tables and enrolled in the Paul Mitchell School. I’ve worked as a stylist since 2006, in my hometown of Austin.

I really enjoy working with hair that moves.  Wavy hair, layered cuts and big volume always get me excited.  Also, pixie cuts are so much fun to design. It takes a lot of courage to wear one, so those clients are usually a wonderful, powerful presence.  Healthy, practical hair is my priority. That leads me to do a lot of rich, natural hair colors.

Besides the Redken Symposium in Vegas and a trip to Redken on 5th Ave for Pure Form Cutting, my education is all local and in house.  I love taking advantage of classes available to me. Now that a have a new salon family, I’m learning something new most days by observing my fellow stylists too.

I take a lot of pride in my consultations, establishing goals and limitations.  My work is a collaboration with the client to create a look they can easily maintain.  Educating the client is just as important as executing a proper cut and color. The wave of relief on a clients’ face when they learn something new is absolutely priceless. Knowledge is power!

On a nice day, I’m reading a book outside with my cat Felix or riding my bicycle towards a taco establishment.

Around the house, I’m practicing my drum skills or watching PBS for hours on end.
