FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

General Questions

How far in advance should I book my appointment?

We recommend all clients schedule their appointments as far in advance as possible to ensure you are scheduled for a time that works best for you. Keep in mind that Saturday and evening appointments tend to fill quickly.  We highly recommend pre-booking appointments before leaving the salon if you see a specific stylist. Walk-ins are always welcome if time is available.

Will you remind me of my appointment?

As a courtesy, we make every effort to notify you of your appointment date and time. We will call to confirm your service one to two days prior to your appointment via telephone call and you will receive an email confirmation five days in advance if we have your email on file. We confirm 24 to 48 hours in advance because we know how easy it is to forget an appointment you booked months ago. However, it is your responsibility to remember your appointment dates and times and inform us if your contact information has changed.

Unfortunately illness happens when we least expect it. We will do everything we can to inform you as soon as possible if your stylist is sick. We will  get you re-scheduled with your stylist ASAP. If that does not work with your schedule we will try to get you in the same day with another stylist

What if I can't get in to see my normal stylist? Is it ok to see someone else?

Absolutely! We don't adopt the typical attitude of "ownership" when it comes to our guests. We're all family here! We have found it mutually beneficial when a client has more than one stylist they see here.  It's great to have a back-up if your stylist is on vacation, ill, or if your schedule simply doesn't line up with theirs.

Styling and color questions

Can I cut and color my hair on the same day?

Yes. If you need to come in sooner than your typical stylist is available we can explore spliting up your appointment or have your typical stylist recommend another one of our talented stylist.

Should I wash my hair before coloring it or getting an updo?

Not unless it's really oily. A little natural oil is perfect protection, it creates a buffer between your skin and the color. If you're getting an updo we recommend coming in with either clean, dry hair or one-day-dirty hair. Some stylists prefer "the dirtier the better" because the oil helps hold and shape the style but, because everyone's scalp is different we prefer clean hair and will use the appropriate products to rough it up for styling.

How often should I get my haircut?

Time in between haircuts will vary by client. Most cuts last between 6-12 weeks. Shorter cuts and mens cuts usually last around 4 weeks. We do offer complimentary bang trims and clean ups between cuts to help the cut last as long as possible. Once your stylist has assessed your hair they will be able to recommend an appropriate amount of time for you to return to the salon.

What is balayage and how the heck do you pronounce it?

Pronounced bah-lee-AHZGE. Balayage is a French word meaning to sweep or to paint. It allows for a sun-kissed natural looking hair color - similar to what nature gives us as children - with softer, less noticeable regrowth lines than traditional foil highlights. The principal idea being less is more when creating soft, natural looks. Click here for some examples.

How long does a color typically last?

Color should last 4-6 weeks, foil highlights 6-12 weeks, balayage highlights 12-16+ weeks. Your stylist can give you a more accurate time frame based on what your goal is with your hair and how fast your hair grows. To ensure maximum longevity, use color safe shampoo and conditioner.

What shampoo should I use to protect my color-treated hair?

Any professional color safe shampoo and conditioner will help protect the color in your hair. We carry Kevin Murphy and Davines shampoos and conditioner in the salon. Your stylist can suggest something that would be appropriate for your color, hair texture, and scalp. Try to avoid shampooing your hair every day. Typically shampooing your hair two to three times per week is more than enough to keep your hair feeling fresh. Dry shampoo also helps between shampooing.

What would be considered a color correction?

That's a tricky question. We try to avoid the words "color correction" if we can. In theory it is when you are going more than 2 shades lighter or darker. In reality the possibilities are endless. Most of the time we can achieve the client's goals without doing a true color correction . Color corrections typically involve multiple steps above and beyond a normal all over color or highlight. Because of this we cannot predict exactly how much time it will take and charge by the hour.  If you think you may need a color correction call our salon and speak to one of our client liaisons. They'll be able schedule you for a consultation with one of our stylists. The stylist can determine at that point if a color correction is necessary.

What products should I use for my hair?

This varies based on what you're trying to achieve with your hair. Your stylist will be able to determine which products will work the best for your cut and texture of hair. Feel free to ask as many questions as you'd like.  We love to keep our clients well informed so they love their hair every day.

What is BondPro+/OLAPLEX?

It's pretty amazing stuff! Both of these are treatments that help protect/rebuild bonds in hair. We highly recommend adding one of these treatments if your hair has been damaged due to over processing but it can be added to any color service to prevent damage.

What color brand do you use?

In our salon we mainly use Goldwell color.

Can I come in for a consultation?

Yes. We always add consultations to all new client appointments or if you are seeing a different stylist than you normally do. We welcome you to schedule a consultation prior to scheduling the service as well. We love to meet our clients, find out what their hair goals are and how we can reach those goals together. We do this free of charge.

Can you teach me how to do my hair?

Absolutely! Our goal is to have you look your best after you style your hair. Our best form of advertisement is your appearance.

How much should I tip?

Tipping for service at a salon is typically handled as you would tipping for service in a restaurant. Generally 10-20% of the total service depending upon how you feel the quality of service was. As always anything is appreciated.

Is there a discount if I don't want a shampoo or blow dry for a haircut?

No. To ensure the accuracy of your haircut your stylist will typically need to shampoo your hair and do the majority of the cutting on wet hair. Depending on your hair texture your stylist may do some dry cutting before your shampoo or after your blow dry.

What is a "dry trim" and how is it different than a "dry cut"?

Dry trims don't take any length off the hair and are generally meant to take weight out of the hair and/or reshape the hair slightly. They are scheduled for less time than a haircut and do not take the place a full haircut. Your stylist can determine if your hair texture and what you want to achieve with your hair is appropriate for dry trims. All new clients will receive a full haircut for their first cut service so the stylist can fully assess your hair. Dry cuts are haircuts for those clients that don't want to have their hair shampooed. They require the same amount of time to complete and therefore cost the same as a cut with a shampoo and blow dry.
